Make the first days easier for a new cat with a calm safe room, predictable routines and gradual introductions.

Start with one quiet room
Set up food, water, litter, a hiding place, scratching surface and a comfortable bed. Keep resources apart where possible and let your cat explore at their own pace.

Let your cat choose contact
Sit quietly nearby, speak softly and offer treats without forcing interaction. Hiding during the first days can be normal; allow the cat to emerge when ready.

Introduce family members gradually
Keep children calm and supervise every interaction. Introduce other pets through scent swapping and barriers before allowing short, controlled meetings.
Watch appetite and litter habits
Stress can affect behaviour, but not eating, repeated vomiting, straining to urinate or marked lethargy warrant prompt veterinary advice.
When to get personalised advice
Every pet is an individual. If you are unsure what is right for your animal, consult your veterinarian or a qualified reward-based trainer as appropriate.
